Recently, OBriens Wine Director, Lynne Coyle Master of Wine was joined by Yann Schler, owner of Chteau Kirwan for the second event in our special Irish Wine Geese series.
The original Irish Wine Geese were the men and women who fled Ireland for the continent in the 17th and 18th centuries, going on to establish some of the best-known wineries in Bordeaux. Since then, further generations of Irish migrs have put down wine roots all over the world to become the modern Irish Wine Geese.
Located in the Margaux appellation of the Haut-Mdoc, Chteau Kirwan is named after Irish businessman, Mark Kirwan who settled in Bordeaux in the mid-18th century. Now owned by the Scher family, the name Chteau Kirwan is synonymous with excellence.
