Weingut Diwald Frhroter Veltliner 2023

Pioneers of biodynamic winegrowing in Austria, with roots in the region of Wagram, the younger generation is now running the show. They focus on Grner Veltliner and Riesling, from classic to single vineyards and orange.

Hans and Paula Diwald grew up in the 1960s, both on a farm. In 1972, they took over the business and restructured it. Since 1976, they have become true pioneers by endeavouring something unthinkable: converting to biodynamic farming practices. Back then there was no official certification yet, only a handful of kindred spirits. Paula and Hans used to be on the receiving end of condescending smiles, but today they are considered among the pioneers of a whole movement.

Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Frhroter Veltliner from Wagram. The vines stem from their own selection of up to 60-year-old vines from the Diebsnest, Eisenhut and Altweingarten sites.

A natural crossing between Rotem Veltliner and the Silvaner, there should be no more than 400 hectares of it grown, mainly in Wagram.

Taste Profile:In cooler years, our Frhroter Veltliner is floral and fruit-driven, while the warmer vintages become darker and offer more spice. The Frhroter Veltliner is always a rounder, softer wine with gentle acidity and low alcohol. Decidedly drinkable and lean thats how we like it.

Winemaking Process: The grapes are hand-picked, macerated for a short amount of time and then allowed to ferment spontaneously in stainless steel tanks before maturing on the lees
