Vicentino is a family-owned winery located in Alentejo, Portugal, and is run by Antonio Ventura and his daughter Filipa. Antonio is a well-respected winemaker with over 30 years of experience in the industry. He began his career in the 1980s at Herdade do Moucho, one of Alentejo’s most historic and iconic wineries, before establishing his own venture, Vicentino.
Antonio’s philosophy is grounded in a deep respect for the land and the environment. The winery practices sustainable viticulture and has adopted a range of techniques to preserve the biodiversity of the region. This includes minimizing the use of chemicals and implementing cover crops to maintain soil health and improve water retention.
Grape Varietals & Region:100% Touriga Nacional from Alentejo, Portugal. The fruit comes from vines planted in predominantly clay soils, with low production potential, allowing the grapes to bear their best attributes. In Zambujeira do Mar, where the high temperatures of the Alentejo are mitigated by the Atlantic, the concentration typical of inland viticulture is balanced by the freshness and humidity of the sea, leading to ideal maturation.
Taste Profile: With a dark ruby colour, this wine displays dark plum, cassis and cherry aromas with hints of violets and balsamic involved in subtle vanilla and spicy notes. It presents a charming smooth texture and yet it is firm and vibrant. Its freshness and elegance are followed by a long a salty finish.
Winemaking Process:Handpicking of the grapes into 15kg boxes. After 4 days of maceration, the wine ferments for 10 days at 24C. Ages in 228 litre French oak barrels for 11 months.
