This Malbec aims for elegance and freshness, avoiding the over-extracted style. It’s a blend from two parcels, one with deeper clay soils and another with clay and gravel, offering a nuanced expression of the grape. Aged for 12 months in old barrels, it undergoes a very light filtration before bottling, ensuring a pure and expressive character.

Lucas Pfister, the winemaker behind 40/40, brings a wealth of international experience, having worked harvests across Europe and Australia before returning to his family’s vineyards in Ugarteche. His philosophy centres on expressing the unique terroir of his land, avoiding excessive manipulation and winemaking tricks. The estate is located at ‘km 40’ on Route 40, a major highway in Mendoza, giving the wine its distinctive name. Lucas believes in minimum intervention in both the vineyard and winery to allow the grape to shine.
