A Centenaria Rioja winery respecting traditions in cellar aging their wines. With a family grape growing history since 1886, Don Romn Montaa founded the winery Marqus de Tomares in 1910, and it is still operated by his grandchildren who continue to maintain the wineries tradition both in the winery and in the estates vineyards.
With nearly 106 hectares of family-owned vineyards, many of which more than 100 years old, spotted throughout Rioja Alta in Haro, Fuenmayor and the surrounding areas, careful viticulture and longtime partnerships with local farmers lend to the precise identity of Marqus de Tomares.
Grape Varietals & Region:blend of Viura & garnacha blanca from their oldest vineyards in the Rioja Alta subzone. The soils are clay-ferrous, with a continental climate.
Taste Profile: Golden yellow in color, it shows notes of brioche & candied orange. As it opens, expect notes of honey, dried flowers & plums on a silky palatte. Broad aftertaste with mineral finish from the soils.
Winemaking Process: Manual harvest with frementation & aging all in French oak barrels, for a minimum of 36 months.
