Rob and Kate Burley have since 2019 been organically farming a picturesque 5.5 Hectare vineyard in Nelson, planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris & Riesling. As the Unkel, they always allow the wine to do the talking, leading its own life through fermentation and ageing in the winery providing what they believe is the most honest expression of the fruit that they started with.
Grape Varietals:Skin fermented Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay from Nelson, New Zealand
Taste Profile: A medium bodied orange wine that you want to keep sipping. Gentle, mouthwatering phenolics wrapped around a hit of Peaches and cream, orange rind, stewed red apple and nectarine. A great intro to orange wine. Slightly funky with a prickle of phenolics & fruit tannin
Winemaking Process: Skin fermented & aged in a mixture of old puncheons & stainless steel
