Weingut Diwald Zweigelt vom Lss 2021

Pioneers of biodynamic winegrowing in Austria, with roots in the region of Wagram, the younger generation is now running the show. They focus on Grner Veltliner and Riesling, from classic to single vineyards and orange.

Hans and Paula Diwald grew up in the 1960s, both on a farm. In 1972, they took over the business and restructured it. Since 1976, they have become true pioneers by endeavouring something unthinkable: converting to biodynamic farming practices. Back then there was no official certification yet, only a handful of kindred spirits. Paula and Hans used to be on the receiving end of condescending smiles, but today they are considered among the pioneers of a whole movement.

Taste Profile:The Zweigelt from loess soils is also supposed to be a fruity, light-bodied red wine, but is meant to offer body and depth. Diwald practises cluster thinning in the loess-soil Zweigelt vineyards in order to reduce the yield dramatically and so considerably improve the grapes ripeness. The wine becomes more concentrated, but never too heavy.

Winemaking Process: Nand-picked and fermented on the skins in stainless steel tanks. The Saigne component is then used for the Ros (some of the juice from the red wine maceration is removed). The wine is matured in acacia barrels.
