Jakob Jung stands for the tipicity of Rheingau Rieslings – light, racy, playful with will-integrated, fine acidity. The winery has been a family property since 1799, in the middle of the Rheingau, in the middle of Erbach, and stands for accessible, quality wines with complexity without being tiresome
The early family generations have not only been cultivating wine, but also other groceries. This changed, when Ludwig Jung took over in 1969, who transformed the mixed-food business into a sole winery. Today, it is run by Alexander Johannes Jung.
The vineyards cover ten hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Hohenrain, Marcobrunn, Michelmark, Siegelsberg and Steinmorgen (Erbach), as well as Sandgrub (Kiedrich). They are planted with the varieties Riesling (82%), Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Gewrztraminer. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way with permanent cover crop, no herbicides and minimised plant protection, and winemaking is typically done with long lees contact for their Rieslings
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) from Rheingau, Germany. Classified VDP.Erste Lage, Steinmorgen is a loess-clay soil with a high proportion of gravel in the topsoil.
Taste Profile: Very dense, juicy Pinot Noir, with a lot of elegance and aromas of sweet cherry, plum and dark chocolate.
Winemaking Process:Selected fruit is hand harvested, destemmed & crushed for several days before pressing. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel open vats, and is then transferred to small oak barrels for 12 months. After long maturation on lees, it is bottle aged for another year before release
