Jakob Jung stands for the tipicity of Rheingau Rieslings – light, racy, playful with will-integrated, fine acidity. The winery has been a family property since 1799, in the middle of the Rheingau, in the middle of Erbach, and stands for accessible, quality wines with complexity without being tiresome
The early family generations have not only been cultivating wine, but also other groceries. This changed, when Ludwig Jung took over in 1969, who transformed the mixed-food business into a sole winery. Today, it is run by Alexander Johannes Jung.
The vineyards cover ten hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Hohenrain, Marcobrunn, Michelmark, Siegelsberg and Steinmorgen (Erbach), as well as Sandgrub (Kiedrich). They are planted with the varieties Riesling (82%), Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Gewrztraminer. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way with permanent cover crop, no herbicides and minimised plant protection, and winemaking is typically done with long lees contact for their Rieslings
Grape Varietals & Region:A Riesling from the premier cru site of Steinmorgen in Rheingau, Germany. The VDP.ERSTE LAGE Steinmorgen site has a loess-clay soil with a high gravel content in the topsoil
Taste Profile:Peach, passion fruit, citrus notes, grapefruit, herbal, spicy, currant. A classic Rheingau Riesling with a single vineyard profile, juicy, smooth, and a soft base on which fruit, acidity, subtle sweetness, and minerality develop in harmonious harmony
Winemaking Process:The fruit is hand harvested & undergoes a short maceration before being gently pressed. It is matured in a third oak, with the remainder in stainless steel tanks. After about 6 months of maturing on the lees, the wine is bottled in the summer
